With any of the easy-to-make instant salsas in gourmet flavors from Mrs. Wages, you can not only make tasty gourmet salsa, but change up your appetizers that go beyond the traditional salsa and tortilla chips fare.  Flavors from Mrs. Wages include Classic Salsa, Jalapeno, Chipotle Garlic, Habanero, Salsa Verde or Fruit and Cilantro.  Loaded with 75% vegetables, there’s onion, garlic, peppers and great spices like chipotle, cumin, oregano and garlic.

To make, just open the seasoning packet, chop fresh or use canned tomatoes, and serve.

Here’s a delicious blend of sweet and salty.

Ingredients:

1 package, fully prepared Mrs. Wages Classic or Jalapeño Salsa
4   8” flour tortillas
3 Tbs. butter, melted
2   8 oz packages cream cheese, softened
1 Cup   finely shredded cheddar cheese (4 oz)
¼ cup milk
2 eggs, slightly beaten
Tortilla Chips

Preparation:

Crust:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Spread tortillas on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown; cool.
  • Break-up tortillas and transfer them to a food processor; cover and process until finely ground.
  • Measure 1 cup crumbs; discard remaining crumbs
  • In a small bowl, combine the tortilla crumbs and melted butter. Press crumb mixture onto the bottom of a greased 9” springform pan; set aside.

Filling:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar cheese and milk.
  • Beat with and electric mixer until well combined.
  • Stir in eggs just until combined.
  • Carefully spoon over crust in pan; spreading evenly.

Bake:

  • Bake about 20 minutes or until center is just set.
  • Cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes; loosen sides of pan.
  • Cool 30 minutes more; remove sides of pan.
  • Cool completely.
  • Cover and chill cheesecake for at least 4 hours.
  • Let stand at room temperature 1 hour.
  • Place cheesecake on platter.
  • Using a slotted spoon, spoon prepared Mrs. Wages salsa on top of cheesecake.
  • Serve with tortilla chips.

Why settle for the traditional chips with your salsa dip?  This fun appetizer is sure to be a hit with your game-day crowd.

Ingredients
1 – 0.8 packet of Mrs. Wages Classic Salsa®
1 – 16 oz. container of sour cream
8-10” flour tortillas
1  – 16 oz. can refried beans
2 cups Monterey jack and Colby mix cheese, shredded
1 cup fresh tomatoes, diced small
1 cup green onion, diced small

Preparation

  • Combine contents of salsa mix and sour cream into a large mixing bowl. Stir well.
  • Spread ¼ cup of refried beans on each tortilla, stopping ½ inch from the end.
  • Spread ¼ cup sour cream on top of the bean layer.
  • Sprinkle ¼ cup shredded cheese on sour cream layer and top with 1 Tbsp each diced tomatoes and onions.
  • Roll tortilla tightly and place on a flat surface, seal side down.
  • Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.
  • Just before service, remove tortilla rollups from plastic wrap.
  • Using serrated knife, slice ½ inch coins.
  • Lie coins flat, with sides touching on a serving platter.
  • Makes 8 rollups.

Remember to rinse and drain the beans in this recipe to make sure they don’t bleed and turn the mango black.  Serve chilled.

Ingredients

15.5 ounces – black beans (drained)
1/2 cup – red onion (minced)
2 mangos (peeled and diced)
1 pkg – Mrs. Wages Classic Salsa Mix
2 Tbsp – red wine vinegar

Preparation

  • Small dice or mince the red onion, place into a mesh strainer and run under hot water for 45 seconds or until they start to turn clear, then turn the water to cold to cool off.
  • Allow the beans to drain completely.
  • In a large mixing bowl add the drained and rinsed black beans with the red onion and the Mrs. Wages Classic Salsa mix and blend evenly.
  • Add the red win vinegar and fold in the diced mango.
  • Chill for a couple of hours to allow the seasoning to bloom and all the flavors to blend together.

Here’s a straight-ahead recipe that’s easy to make a works great with everything from chicken skewers to fried shrimp or warm tortilla chips.

Ingredients

1 package fully prepared Mrs. Wages Tomatillo Salsa
½ cup heavy cream
Preparation

  • In a medium sauce pan heat prepared salsa to a low boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer 2-3 minutes.
  • Stir in cream and heat the sauce through.
  • Do not let boil after adding the cream.
  • Serve immediately.
